    • OK, the plans for pitown sound great. Fly into n airpot, and getTF to pITOWN, yes, I'VE HAD A bit too much to drink. We'll be driving, sober.

The OCW's birthday was today, 5/23. I took her to see Eric Fookin' Clapton at the Royal Albert HALL. This was a life's ambition for my lovely, and we were able to put it together. The event was greater than the show, if you know what I mean. The show was excellent, but the whole experience was the experience. Ah, fook it; you get it or not.

Royal Alber fookin' Hall. Reference Beatles song from the sixties (I htink it was A Day Int the Life). Everybody who is anybody has played the Royal Albert Hall.

    • we flew in to palm springs the first 2 years (well campout 2&3 it is definately the quickest easiest trip to pi-town...ontario is the best for going between the beach (Newport) and pi-town (club med sucks) but Lo_FI on Sunday is always so amazing, Ontario is the best airport for all points....and the Ontario airport has lots of crumb memories for me (Driving around in Circles).........

    • Agree with Borky, flying into Palm Springs is soooo much easier, but you have to drive back west to get to Lo Fi. Down the I-10 from LAX is a drag, and might not be that much quicker than Vegas if the traffic's bad (took me 3 1/2 hours first time in 2005, arrived just as LP was firing up).

    • Pi-Town - ahhh.

Travel advice: We flew into Plam Springs for about $350 last year and the drive up to Pi-Town was about 30-40 minutes. No Lo-Fi though which sucked, but if you are looking for a very short drive Palm Springs is it. The airport is small and you get out of there w/ your rental car very quick.

    • Zimmbob, 4 hours in a car can be tedious, but for those of us who live in the lush, green east and unaccustomed to the desert, I love driving through really barren landscapes. Death Valley is not so far out of the way, and it's really cool, err, I mean interesting. Cool it's definitely not in Sept. Last year Rosemary and I spent some time there, making it to the spot of lowest elevation in the western hemisphere, and the temp. that day reached something like 108. I was a bit disappointed, as I was hoping to experience something in the range of 115. Maybe in the future. Beyond Death Valley, there are other potential places to visit if you fly into Vegas. I've had the Salton Sea on my list of places to visit for some time now, and am still hoping to make it there one of these years.

If you really hate long drives, you might follow Glenn's advice, and target Ontario.

    • Hi guys, just popped in to say hi. Reading about Pi-Town brings back memories.

    • Oaklander, the Elgin Marbles were very cool. And the Rosetta Stone explanation was mind blowing.

Got to see a Modigliani nude today; my first one. Obscure museum/Art School; the Courtauld Gallery. Also went to a new diner; by Jamie Oliver. Fantastic.

I'm loving the talk about Pioneertown. Alick was talking about possibly camping, but is concerned about the heat when that sun comes up.

    • Ohhhh boy! Let the Campout planning begin. Seems like it will be here before we know it.

We drive usually from NorCal to PiTown but it makes for a long day. This year I am planning way ahead and going to take off extra day before and after to allow sufficient crumb prep and for post-COD.

Your trip sounds amazing BB (and OCW). Would like to see the Elgin Marbles someday...but may have to go to Greece to do that if they are returned.

    • zimmbob, Ontario is the closest of the 'major' airports, about 1 1/2 hours to pitown, half of that to lo-fi.

    • Thanks Gene. I had Vegas in mind because of the cheaper flights. I just hate the four hour rental car ride from Vegas. Appreciate the advice.
